John Anthony Balconi
September 22, 1952 - January 05, 2012

John Anthony Balconi of Wolverine Lake was born on September 22, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles John and Agnes Katherine (nee: Jackovich) Balconi. He died January 5, 2012 at age 59.

John is the beloved husband of 38 years to Cheryl; Loving father of Katherine Marie Balconi and Angelita (Mike) Mardiros and grandfather of Livia Capri Mardiros. He is survived by his mother Agnes (the late Charles) Balconi.

John and his wife met in 1968 while classmates and they have been together ever since. He was a 1970 graduate of Henry Ford High School in Detroit. He then went on to graduate from Lawrence Technical Institute with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1978. He moved to Wolverine Lake in 1976 where he and his wife Cheryl raised their family. In addition to Wolverine Lake, he spent much of his time at his family home in Hancock in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and at his cabin “Jack’s Joint” in St. Helen, Michigan. With the Catholic belief of serving others, John was always the first to offer help when someone was in need. An avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, he was a member of Multilakes Conservation Association in Commerce Twp. John was an Associate and worked as an environmental engineer for Golder Associates in Wixom.
It is best summed up by a friend who stated, “the loss of his knowledge alone is irreplaceable. John was the man we always went to for the bow set-up, gun sight-in, or damn near anything else that needed fixing, finishing or rebuilding.”

I've known John since before Kindergarten. Grew up with him in Detroit. Everyday we hung together was filled with laughter. He was a great guy, and as a friend he will be missed! Thoughts and prayers to his family. Brian

Dear Cheryl, Sorry that I didn't get the visitation info for John until today. He was a good man and will be missed by many. Even though I hadn't seen him in a few years, I remember him fondly. My sympathy to you and your family.

I knew John through his work as a consultant over the past 20 or so years. He always had a positive outlook on life and always something good to say. My sincere condolences.

I was a high school classmate of John's. I am saddened to hear about his passing. I just received the notice. I will always remember John as being friendly and kind. I pray that John's loved ones will find comfort in their belief that he is now at peace in Heaven.
